We have been able to encourage and celebrate the diversity within our kindergarten families by purchasing new puzzles that depict many different children from different countries/cultures.  This was something that was lacking in our service, and the delight the children showed in seeing their own cultural dress and foods on our equipment was wonderful.  We aim to provide a feeling of belonging within our service, and by showing children pictures and equipment that looks like them we are supporting their feeling that they matter and belong here.

We purchased a large outdoor mat with Indigenous symbols which we used to gather together for group times and snack.  As we build our knowledge of Aboriginal culture we are using and talking about Aboriginal symbols and strorytelling more and more.

The books “Some Girls” and “Who am I? I am me!” celebrate individuality and a feeling that everyone is capable and valued.

We are extremely fortunate to have been chosen for this grant as our budget for equipment is depleted very quickly.
