Through this project, we recognised that our relationships with families strengthen when they see their identities reflected and valued in the program. We purchased books about diversity including race, identity, culture, skin colour, disability, different languages. We even got a book about Melbourne, as we have some families that have not yet been to the city and have only heard about it.
We chose stories as the central thread of our project, acknowledging that storytelling is a powerful tool for connection, understanding and empathy. Sharing stories allowed children to learn about one another’s backgrounds in a joyful, age-appropriate way. At Wangaratta West Kindergarten, this initiative has strengthened our sense of community and reminded us that when children and families feel seen and included, authentic relationships flourish and learning deepens for everyone.
Thankyou once again for allowing us the opportunity.
