The grant money was spent on purchasing dual language books for our kindergarten borrowing library. The children have been borrowing these books and families have been reading them to the children at home.
Many families have expressed how much they loved reading a book in their home language with their children and then also reading it in English.
We also have been putting together a book of the families’ greetings in their home languages. I am putting these books together which will then be shared with each of our three year old and four year old groups to read to the children at group times and for the children to read independently. This will help us all have a better understanding and appreciation of the languages spoken at our service and use these words more with families at drop off and pick up time.
